Do you know a person, group or business who has gone the extra mile to revitalize or preserve the historic character of their home, barn, storefront, landscape or streetscape? Help us celebrate the people, buildings, and cultural landscapes that contribute to our region’s history and community by nominating them for a Historic Preservation Award!
Nominated projects must be located in Otsego or Schoharie Counties, must have been completed between 2011 and 2016, and must have adhered to the principles of historic preservation as much as possible – Restore or repair if possible; replace in kind if not.
To nominate a project, please complete the 2016 HP Award Nomination Form and return to Otsego 2000 no later than April 10th, 2017. Once applications are received, Otsego 2000 will schedule a site visit for the panel to view the property prior to their meeting.
Otsego 2000’s independent panel of preservationists considers awards in the following categories:
Cornerstone Award For a project that promotes a preservation ethic through the maintenance or repair of a historic home, building, or landscape. Cornerstone projects need not be large in scale; rather they are the foundational projects that preserve historic character and integrity piece by piece.
Renaissance Award For a project that revitalizes a home, building or landscape while keeping or renewing its historic character through substantial rehabilitation or adaptive re-use. Properties receiving this award are not only improved in their own right, but provide benefits to the neighborhood or community.
Preservation Advocate Award For an individual or group who has worked tirelessly on preservation projects and/or encourages tangible historic preservation goals for the community’s benefit.
Community Pillar Award For a municipal, commercial, or institutional project that demonstrates responsible stewardship of, and commitment to, the historic integrity of a building, landscape, or streetscape.
Education and Outreach Award For a project such as an educational publication, history exhibit or program, or interpretive signage. Projects nominated in this category must demonstrate that they further historic preservation goals or objectives.
