Sibs of Sharon: The Happy Hamlets (2009)

Since 1999, Otsego 2000 has sponsored the annual Historic Preservation Awards for Otsego and Schoharie Counties.  These awards recognize individuals and groups who have committed themselves to preserving our regional historic sites, landscapes and communities for future use and enjoyment. An independent jury of preservation experts reviews applications for the following award categories: Career Achievement, Stewardship, Adaptive Re-use, Restoration, Rehabilitation, Historic Preservation Planning, and Community Education and Outreach. To be eligible for consideration, the project must have been completed within the past five years. Call for nominations will be announced in early 2012.

The diverse group of award recipients over the years, including individuals with a life-long passion for preservation, educational programs developed by school groups, rehabilitation-focused homeowners and many other special projects, reflects the value our community places on preserving our region’s past for the enjoyment of all - this is our way to say thank you!

Before and after photos of Stone House Farm, Tim and Patti Everett's home they rehabilitated after a disastrous fire in 2005 gutted the nineteenth century structure. They rebuilt the home using local materials and kept the original stone walls; their dedication was recognized by the 2010 Rehabilitation Award.

restoration project.  One of the winners of the

     2008 Historic Preservation Awards.

The Van Patten Hop House received a 2005 Historic Preservation Award for its rehabilitation.  Located in the hamlet of Middlefield Center in Otsego County, this project received funding through the New York State Barn Restoration and Preservation Grant Program.

The American Hotel, located in Sharon Springs, Schoharie County, received a 2001 Historic Preservation Award.  This Greek Revivial style hotel, built between 1847 and 1851, had stood vacant for years.  Now in active use as a hotel and restaurant, the American Hotel is a cornerstone of the community’s revitalization.

In 2004, the Cooperstown Elementary School’s Fourth Grade Class and the Cooperstown Graduate Program won an award for their exhibit "Journey to the North: New York’s Freedom Trail." This  Underground Railroad exhibit combined original artwork from the Fourth Grade Class with interpretive panels developed by students in the Cooperstown Graduate Program.
