2026 Report to the Community

Many of us first discovered the hills and valleys of Otsego County through a job offer, graduate school, a family vacation, or as a music lover. Still others were drawn here through friends or a love of baseball, and many of us have roots going back generations. What ties us to this place?

For us, and we suspect for many, it is the special combination of natural beauty, rural landscapes, access to the outdoors, historic architecture, arts, vibrant community, and civic fabric that we enjoy. Otsego 2000 is proud to have played a role for the past 45 years in keeping our natural and historic resources safe from overdevelopment and industrial infrastructure, while building programs that add to the region’s quality of life and economic vitality.

Often, this requires us to take a strong stance on challenges to our rural landscapes, lakes and waterways, and community character. This year we face three concurrent significant challenges, and we are counting on you to make sure we have the resources to be successful while we continue our programs that add so much to the community year-round.

A proposed 1,525-acre subdivision would bring 126 new homes to the west slope of Otsego Lake, which does not have the critical resources to support that much development. The impact on Otsego Lake’s water quality alone is very concerning. The 125-mile Constitution Pipeline has reemerged as a real threat, this time with the potential of data centers and power plants attached. And the National Register-listed cultural landscapes of the Glimmerglass Historic District and Holy Trinity Monastery are threatened by a potential 74-turbine wind facility extending from the Town of Springfield to the Mohawk River.

Our Report to the Community provides more detail on each of these tough issues as well as on our growing programs: the year-round Cooperstown Farmers’ Market, Otsego Outdoors, Glimmerglass Film Days, and Historic Preservation initiatives.
